Country Home Decorating
by Ken Wilssens
Some people misunderstand what it means to do country home decorating in their homes. They think that decorating with a country theme means to make their home look like it is from the past, some compare it to what homes look like in old western movies. This is not the case at all. Creating a country look in your home has nothing to do with living in the past. Country home decorating simply means that you have a home that is full of color, worn furniture and sometimes wicker. Country style decorating is taking things that are old and making them work in a new fresh home to create a feeling of warmth and coziness. The atmosphere must be relaxed and it has been said to be associated with simple things.
Following these few simple tips can do country home decorating:
Flooring - When decorating country style hardwood floors create the best look and feel. The floor can then be covered with old rugs that add warmth to the floor. Coir mats have been found to create the best country home decorating look.
Walls - When doing some country home decorating the walls can either be wood or brick. If you decide to go with the wooden walls then you can add some stain or varnish to the walls to make them look aged and old. If you want to have the wood age naturally then just leave it plain. The wood will eventually turn on its own. However, if you decide to let the walls age naturally you should be careful when hanging pictures because the wall behind the picture will not turn on its own. Therefore when you remove the picture you will have a section of the wall different from the rest.
Furniture - In country home decorating furniture is usually not upholstered but is left bare. This creates the true country feeling. To add some color to your furniture you can always add a colorful blanket or throw.
Color- Last but not least, having the proper color goes a long way in creating the perfect country style in your home. Natural colors are the best colors to work with when doing some country home decorating.
To add the final touches to your room you should add some accessories such as wicker and wooden baskets. You can have potpourri in small wicker containers around the room. You can also purchase scented candles that smell of pies baking or wood burning to once again give the home more of a country feel.
